So here I am…

The hardest part of any new journey is that first step. I puzzled over what my first blog would be and decided it should probably explain the meaning of my motto, “Finding character in God’s story.” As a writer, I often find myself scribbling out ideas and wondering where these random scenes and characters will take me. All three of the novels I’ve written follow characters as they journey to find their way in the greater scheme of God’s plan. The heroine of my first novel struggled to reconcile herself to God after the terrible decision to follow her own desires first. My second heroine, the prophet Deborah, learned to submit her will to God’s and by serving him gained great power and freed her people from oppression. The latest book traces one woman’s fear of trusting God after the death of her fiancé. Three characters from vastly different backgrounds and even different time periods, but their conflicts can be boiled down to the same questions we all have, “What is God’s plan and how do I fit in it?”

“Finding Character in God’s Story” is something I want to attain not only as an author, but as a follower of Christ. As an author I want to write great stories that capture my readers’ imaginations and maybe even help them work through some difficult questions. As a follower of Christ I want to submit myself to live a good story with God as my “author.”  As any reader can attest, the secret to a great book is conflict-watching the protagonist overcome adversity. As people, we don’t like to have that kind of drama in our lives. But in order to live stories that surpass the ordinary we have to learn to take risks, to weather the storms and to strive to claw our way out from mediocrity. And that is my goal. I hope you join me on this journey!
